Mawsynram: India's Monsoon Capital in Meghalaya

Mawsynram is a small village in Meghalaya, India, known as the Monsoon Capital of India.

It receives the highest average annual rainfall in the world because of its location in the East Khasi Hills.

The moist monsoon winds from the Bay of Bengal rise rapidly over the hills, causing heavy rainfall.

Nearby Cherrapunji, also known as Sohra, was once the wettest place on Earth and still holds records for the highest rainfall in a single month and year.

Both places offer beautiful scenery with waterfalls, caves, and mist-covered valleys.

The best time to visit Mawsynram is between June and September when the rainfall is at its peak.

You can reach Mawsynram by air through Shillong Airport or by road from Shillong, which is about 60 km away.
