Delhi Congress questions Lakshmi Yojana eligibility norms and estimates
The Delhi Lakshmi Yojana is a program that gives money to women in the city.
A Congress leader named Mukesh Sharma said the rules might leave out some people, like tenants who don’t have electricity bills in their names.
He also said the rule that people need a recommendation from a local politician is unfair.
He wants the government to change these rules.
The Delhi government, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has started an online portal for the scheme and plans to give Rs 2,500 each month to about 17 lakh women.
The debate is about making sure everyone who should get help can get it easily.
Congress leader Mukesh Sharma questioned the eligibility criteria of Delhi's Lakshmi Yojana, citing potential exclusion of tenants and migrants.
He challenged the government's estimate of 17 lakh beneficiaries and demanded clarification.
Sharma objected to the requirement that applicants obtain MLA or MP recommendations, calling it an unnecessary hurdle.
He criticized the scheme's digital wallet lock‑up, arguing beneficiaries should access funds immediately.
The Delhi government, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, launched an online portal and allocated Rs 5,110 crore for the scheme.
