IIT Bombay Protests End Amid Caste and Accountability Divide

Students at IIT Bombay protested after student Sahil Wakode died.

The protests lasted three days, and students have now returned to regular classes.

Some students believe caste discrimination and the institute’s response must be investigated.

They also want all the promises in their 18-point list completed.

Other students think it is better to wait for the investigation before making conclusions.

The institute apologised for an earlier statement about what happened before Wakode’s death.

It also removed Professor Suryanarayana Doolla from an administrative position and created a grievance Support Portal.

Teachers disagree about whether removing him was fair before the investigation finished.

The protests on campus have ended, but disagreements about fairness, accountability and caste remain.
