Ladakh Padyatra Deferred Ahead of Crucial September 9 Talks

Ladakh Padyatra Deferred Ahead of Crucial September 9 Talks

People in Ladakh planned a peaceful 15-day walk from Kargil to Leh.

They wanted the government to address demands about statehood, constitutional protections, and elected democratic institutions.

The walk was postponed because new talks will take place in New Delhi on September 9.

Organizers say they are giving negotiations a chance.

They also say the walk may return if the talks do not bring real progress.

The Ladakh administration has agreed to withdraw cases against 25 people who were considered only slightly or not involved in earlier incidents.

The government says it is working toward special constitutional protection for Ladakh.

Both sides now see the September 9 meeting as an important chance to reduce tensions.
