Ex-AU VC Jailed for Contempt
A former university leader named P.V.G.D. Prasada Reddy was sent to jail for one month and had to pay a fine of ₹2,000.
This happened because a court in Andhra Pradesh found him guilty of not following their orders.
The court said he did not do what they told him to do about some university staff issues, even after they told him many times.
The court decided this was on purpose and not following their orders was wrong.
Former Andhra University Vice-Chancellor P.V.G.D. Prasada Reddy was sentenced to one month's simple imprisonment and fined ₹2,000 for contempt of court.
The Andhra Pradesh High Court found him guilty under Section 12 of the Contempt of Courts Act, 1971.
The court observed that Prasada Reddy did not comply with judicial directions on faculty service matters.
The non-compliance was deemed deliberate and undermined the court's authority.
The sentence was issued after repeated directions in earlier writ petitions and contempt proceedings.
