Pentagon Prepares 1,500 Troops for Minnesota
The Pentagon has put 1,500 soldiers from Alaska on alert to possibly go to Minnesota.
This is because there have been big protests in Minnesota, and the government wants to be ready in case things get worse.
The protests are about immigration and a recent shooting by an ICE officer.
The soldiers are part of a special unit that is good at working in cold weather.
The President might use a special law to send these soldiers if needed.
The mayor of Minneapolis says more soldiers are not needed and could make things worse.
The government is also sending more immigration officers to the area, which has made some people upset.
The Pentagon has placed 1,500 active-duty soldiers from Alaska on prepare-to-deploy orders for a possible mission to Minnesota.
The move is a contingency measure in case violence escalates during protests against federal immigration actions.
President Trump has threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act if state and local authorities fail to control the protests.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey warned that deploying military would worsen tensions in the city.
Around 3,000 ICE and Border Patrol agents are already in Minneapolis and St. Paul amid ongoing protests.
