India’s Rupee Rises After RBI Secures $136 Billion Inflows

India’s central bank collected a very large amount of foreign money through special programs.

About $127 billion came from dollar deposits by overseas citizens.

Another $9.15 billion came through two other programs.

Together, the programs raised roughly $136 billion.

This was much more than the central bank had expected.

The rupee became stronger against the dollar after the announcement.

Officials and analysts said the money gives the central bank more ability to support the rupee.

The programs were created after investment outflows had pushed the rupee to record lows.
