West Bengal Assembly Speaker Expunges BJP MLAs' Speeches
Imagine a meeting where important rules are being discussed.
Some politicians got upset because they felt they didn't have enough time to understand the new rules.
They decided to leave the meeting to show they were unhappy.
The person in charge of the meeting, the Speaker, didn't like this and removed what those politicians said from the record.
Despite their absence, the new rules were still approved.
The new rules are supposed to help both the people who pay taxes and the government.
Assembly Speaker expunged speeches of two BJP MLAs after they walked out.
The walkout occurred after a discussion on the West Bengal Sales Tax (Settlement of Disputes) (Amendment) Bill, 2025.
BJP Chief Whip Sankar Ghosh said the walkout was to protest the limited time to study the Bill.
The Bill was passed by voice vote in the absence of the BJP members.
The amendment aims to benefit both tax assessees and the state government.
