West Bengal Targets 10 Crore Trees in Mangrove Restoration Drive
West Bengal, a state in India, wants to plant a huge number of trees—10 crore, which is 100 million—to help the environment.
The Forest Minister, Manoj Oraon, said that students, schools, and young people should help.
They plan to plant 1.5 crore saplings just in one town called Midnapore.
The trees will grow in places like the Sundarbans, a famous mangrove forest.
The government will also check if people illegally cut mangroves and will stop it.
They will clean up 1,600 hectares of land that was taken for houses or resorts.
The goal is to protect the land from storms and rising sea levels.
The plan will start in October and finish by November.
Everyone is encouraged to join the effort.
The state hopes the forests will grow strong again.
West Bengal government aims to plant 10 crore trees by November under mangrove restoration and social forestry programmes.
Forest Minister Manoj Oraon urges students, youth groups, schools and voluntary organisations to join the plantation drive.
1.5 crore saplings will be planted in Midnapore alone, with large‑scale plantations planned across Sundarbans, North 24‑Parganas, Jangalmahal, Purulia and other North Bengal districts.
The state will audit alleged illegal mangrove destruction and enforce strict action against encroachment, resorts and other structures.
A 1,600‑hectare land reclamation effort will regenerate mangroves through scientific plantation and ecological restoration.
