Meghalaya MP Urges ILP Implementation
A lawmaker from Shillong, Ricky Syngkon, has asked the central government to quickly start the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in Meghalaya.
This system is already in place in some other northeastern states.
Syngkon believes ILP will help protect Meghalaya's land and people from illegal immigration and land issues.
He mentioned that all political parties in Meghalaya agree that ILP is a good solution.
The system requires people to show documents when they enter the state, but it won't stop tourists.
Syngkon also said that setting up a committee to finalize the details of ILP will help build trust and cooperation between the central and state governments.
Shillong MP Ricky Syngkon urged the central government to expedite the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya.
The ILP aims to address concerns over demographic change, land alienation, and unregulated migration in the tribal-majority state.
All political parties in Meghalaya have agreed that the ILP would be an ideal protective measure for the state.
States like Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Manipur have streamlined online permit systems for ILP, which has not hindered tourist inflows.
Syngkon proposed the formation of a joint technical committee with the state government to finalize the implementation modalities of the ILP.
