IndiGo Faces Challenges After Flight Disruptions
The Delhi High Court told IndiGo, a big airline, to write a formal statement about how it will give back money to passengers and pay them extra for the trouble caused by many cancelled flights in December 2025.
The court wants IndiGo to explain how and when it will do this within two weeks.
The government has already fined IndiGo Rs 22.20 crore and told the airline to fire one of its senior leaders and issue warnings to six senior executives, including the Chief Operating Officer.
IndiGo has started giving back money for cancelled tickets and is offering Rs 10,000 vouchers to some passengers.
The court also asked what will happen if passengers can't use the vouchers within 12 months.
The government and IndiGo think this is a reasonable time, but some people who support passengers think it's not enough time for everyone.
The court will hear more about this on February 25, 2026.
The airline also reported a big drop in profit for the quarter ending December 2025, partly because of the flight disruptions and new labour laws.
IndiGo has vacated 10% of its slots, but other airlines may not find them attractive due to their non-premium nature and low traffic density.
IndiGo's shares have also declined nearly 4% after the profit decline was reported.
The Delhi High Court ordered IndiGo to file an affidavit within two weeks detailing the refund and compensation process for stranded passengers due to flight disruptions in December 2025.
IndiGo has processed refunds for cancelled tickets and is offering Rs 10,000 vouchers with a 12-month validity for severely impacted flights.
The government fined IndiGo Rs 22.20 crore, ordered the dismissal of a senior vice president, and issued warnings to six senior executives, including the Chief Operating Officer.
Over three lakh passengers were affected by the cancellation of 2,507 flights and the delay of 1,852 flights between December 3 and 5, 2025.
IndiGo reported a 78% decline in net profit for the December quarter, with significant operational disruptions and new labour laws contributing to the financial impact.
