Telangana Auto Workers Welcome Fare Hike, Rally in Support

Telangana Auto Workers Welcome Fare Hike, Rally in Support

The Telangana government has increased the fares people pay for autorickshaw rides.

The first 1.6 kilometres now cost at least ₹30, up from ₹20.

Each kilometre after that costs ₹14 instead of ₹11.

Auto workers had asked for a fare increase for more than 12 years.

Their union says fuel, repairs, insurance and other expenses have become more costly.

Union members held a rally to thank Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and the government.

The union says the new fares may help drivers earn about ₹400 to ₹600 more each day, depending on how much they work.

It also asked drivers to follow the new rates, display fare cards until meters are adjusted, and provide safe and respectful service.
