David Schwartz: Inventor of the First All-Metal Airship

David Schwartz: Inventor of the First All-Metal Airship

Imagine a time when airplanes were made of fabric, like a kite!

A man named David Schwartz, who was a wood seller, had a really big idea: what if we could build an airplane entirely out of metal, like aluminum?

People thought his idea was silly and laughed at him.

But David kept working on his dream.

He got help from a rich man named Carl Berg who gave him metal and money.

David tried to build his metal airplane in Russia, but he couldn't finish it there.

Later, a government in Germany heard about his design and made a deal to build it.

Sadly, David died just before his amazing metal airplane was going to fly for the first time.

Even though he didn't get to see it, his idea helped make the metal airplanes we fly in today possible.
