Nepal Flood Death Toll Reaches 1,127 as Survivor Hopes Fade

A huge flood and mudslide hit Nepal and nearby Tibet on August 26.

Ice and rock collapsed near the Nepal-Tibet border, sending water, mud and debris into valleys.

More than 1,100 people in Nepal have died, and thousands are still missing.

China has also reported deaths and missing people.

Rescue teams are searching through mud, tunnels and broken buildings for survivors.

The chances of finding people alive are becoming smaller as more time passes.

Many roads and bridges were destroyed, making rescue work difficult.

Nepal is identifying bodies, helping displaced families and beginning plans for rebuilding.

Aid groups are also worried about dirty water, crowded shelters and disease.
