Tigress Tara Released in Maharashtra’s Chandoli National Park
The Maharashtra Forest Department released a tigress named Tara into the Chandoli National Park, which is part of the Sahyadri Tiger Reserve.
Tara was brought from the Tadoba Tiger Reserve and kept in a special enclosure to prepare her for life in the wild.
She was monitored closely to ensure she was healthy and ready.
The forest department hopes that Tara and another tigress, Chanda, will help increase the tiger population in the area.
This will also help protect nature and create more jobs for people who work in wildlife tourism.
Both tigresses have radio collars so that the forest department can track them and make sure they are safe.
Tigress Tara was released into Chandoli National Park on December 18, 2025, as part of the Tiger Augmentation and Range Expansion (TARA) programme.
Tara was translocated from Tadoba Tiger Reserve and kept in a soft-release enclosure for assessment and adaptation.
The tigress exhibited excellent natural behaviour, hunting skills, and was deemed fit for independent survival in the wild.
The release aims to boost the tiger population in the Sahyadri Tiger Reserve and strengthen biodiversity and sustainable wildlife tourism.
Both Tigress Tara and another tigress, Chanda, are being monitored using radio collars, satellite-based telemetry, and VHF antenna tracking.
