Telangana ACB Seeks I-T Probe Into Benami Properties

Telangana’s Anti-Corruption Bureau suspects that some officials may have more property than their known income can explain.

It says some of the property may have been put in other people’s names to hide who really owns it.

This is called benami property.

The ACB asked the Income Tax Department to investigate.

Six officials are involved in the cases.

The properties reportedly include land, buildings, investments, and gold.

The alleged assets are valued at more than Rs.100 crore in one account, while another describes them as worth hundreds of crores by market value.

The Income Tax Department has reportedly opened cases under a law that deals with benami property.
