Ladakh Ships First Lilium Consignment as Cultural Festival Concludes

Ladakh sent its first large shipment of flowers to markets in India.

The shipment contained 15,000 Lilium stems grown high in the Himalayan mountains.

The flowers came in several colors and could last for up to seven days.

Officials hope selling flowers will create more jobs and income for local people.

Fifteen women are already working on preparing the flowers.

Officials also want to grow flowers on much larger areas next year.

At the same time, Ladakh finished a three-day festival celebrating its music, dances and traditions.

Artists and visitors from Ladakh and other parts of India took part.
