Court Enhances Compensation for Bus Accident Death Victim
A man named Ashili Shankarappa died in a bus accident in 2013.
His family asked for money to help them because he was not there to support them.
The court first said they would give them Rs 2.23 lakh, but his family thought this was not enough.
They went to a higher court, and the judge said the first court made a mistake.
The judge decided that Ashili Shankarappa earned more money than they thought, so they should get more money.
The judge said the family should get Rs 16.93 lakh instead.
The bus company has to pay this money within 60 days.
Justice B.R. Madhusudhan Rao enhanced the motor accident compensation to Rs 16.93 lakh for the family of Ashili Shankarappa, who died in a bus accident in 2013.
The initial compensation awarded by the Motor Accidents Claims Tribunal was Rs 2.23 lakh, which the family challenged.
The judge noted that the deceased owned agricultural land and that his income was undervalued at Rs 1,500 per month, revising it to Rs 10,000 per month.
The enhanced compensation includes future prospects, appropriate multipliers, and various heads of compensation, with interest at 9% per annum.
The judge directed APSRTC to deposit the enhanced compensation amount within 60 days.
