Regional Films Dominate 2025 Box Office
In 2025, many people in India started watching more regional movies instead of Hindi films.
These regional movies, which cost less to make, did really well at the box office.
For example, a Gujarati movie called Laalo: Krishna Sada Sahaayate made a lot of money, and a Malayalam movie called Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra became the highest-grossing Malayalam film ever.
Even a Marathi movie called Dashavatar did very well.
People are now more interested in good stories and relatable characters, no matter what language the movie is in.
This change has made regional movies very popular and successful.
Regional films outperformed Hindi films in 2025, with a 25% drop in Hindi releases.
Gujarati film Laalo: Krishna Sada Sahaayate was a top 5 film with Rs 92 crore box office.
Malayalam film Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra became the highest-grossing Malayalam film globally with Rs 300 crore.
Marathi film Dashavatar led collections with Rs 28.47 crore.
Kantara: A Legend - Chapter 1 became India's highest-grossing film of 2025 with Rs 735 crore.
