Palghar Ashram School Students Protest Poor Food, Central Kitchen

Hundreds of students from government residential schools protested in Jawhar.

They said the food supplied to their schools was sometimes poor in quality.

The students blamed a system in which meals are cooked in one central kitchen.

They said transporting the food to distant schools can take too long.

Because of the delays, they feared the food could become stale and unsafe.

The students marched in a traditional “Tamasha” style.

They then began sitting outside the Jawhar Tribal Development Project office.

They have 13 demands and said they will continue the sit-in until senior officials give written assurances.
