Ladakh Raises Nambardar Age Limit to 63 Years

Ladakh Raises Nambardar Age Limit to 63 Years

Ladakh’s village heads are called Nambardars.

They help connect local people with the administration.

Previously, they could serve only until age 60, even if their five-year term had not ended.

Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has raised the maximum age to 63.

Their five-year term has not changed.

The All Ladakh Goba Association asked for the change.

Officials say it can help communities keep experienced village heads, especially in remote areas.

A separate recent decision increased their monthly payment from ₹1,500 to ₹5,000.
