Morning nutrition program aids govt school students
In Visakhapatnam, the District Collector noticed that many students in government schools were coming to school hungry.
To help them, he started a program called 'morning nutrition' with the help of a foundation.
This program gives students nutritious food like millet and protein bars on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
The food is provided for free and will continue until March.
The state government already gives meals during the day, but this new program helps students start their day with a full stomach.
The foundation says if the program is successful, they might even provide food six days a week.
District Collector MN Harendhira Prasad initiated the 'morning nutrition programme' to provide breakfast to government school students.
The Akshaya Patra Foundation partnered to distribute nutritious millet-based food and protein bars on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
The program started in December and will continue till March, with potential expansion to six days a week based on response.
The initiative aims to support students from weaker sections who often come to school hungry.
The state government already provides mid-day meals, and this program complements it by addressing morning hunger.
