Mizoram Governor Says Partition Divided Zo-Chin People, Triggered Mass Migration
Every year, people in India remember a sad time called Partition.
In 1947, the country called India was split into two countries.
During that split, millions of people had to leave their homes and move to a new place.
A governor named Vijay Kumar Singh gave a speech about this in a city called Aizawl.
He said the split also divided a group of people called the Zo-Chin.
These people now live in different countries: India, Bangladesh and Myanmar.
The governor said between 10 and 14 million people had to move during Partition.
He said it is important to remember the people who suffered and to learn from history.
He also told young people to study history carefully and not believe false stories.
The governor said India is strongest when everyone stays together.
Mizoram Governor Vijay Kumar Singh said the 1947 Partition divided the Zo-Chin people across newly created political boundaries.
Singh was addressing a Partition Horrors Remembrance Day programme organised by the state Art and Culture Department at Vanapa Hall in Aizawl.
He said Partition triggered one of the largest mass migrations in history, with an estimated 10 to 14 million people compelled to migrate.
The governor said the division of the Chittagong Hill Tracts separated many Zo-Chin people, who live across northeastern India, Bangladesh and Myanmar.
Singh urged schoolchildren to remember that India is one nation and cautioned the younger generation against misinformation and misleading narratives.
