IBM CEO Blames Pandemic Over-Hiring for Job Cuts
IBM's CEO, Arvind Krishna, says that the recent job cuts in the tech industry are not mainly because of AI.
He believes that companies hired too many people during the pandemic and now they are correcting that.
He thinks that AI will cause some job losses in the future, but not as many as some people think.
He also says that even though AI will change some jobs, companies will still hire more people, just in different roles.
IBM CEO Arvind Krishna attributes current tech industry layoffs to over-hiring during the pandemic, not AI.
He notes that some companies saw employee counts increase by 30-100% from 2020 to 2023.
Krishna predicts up to 10% job displacement due to AI over the next couple of years, concentrated in certain areas.
He believes that increased productivity from AI will lead to more hiring in different roles.
The current job cuts are seen as a natural correction of employment levels after the pandemic.
