GSI Confirms Gold and Rare Mineral Deposits in West Bengal
The Geological Survey of India has found gold and other important minerals in West Bengal.
They discovered gold in nine places, mostly in the southern and western parts of the state.
The most promising site is in Purulia, where they have found about 650 kg of gold.
They also found special minerals called rare earth elements, which are important for making electronics, batteries, and defense equipment.
The government has been exploring these areas for the past five years.
However, the state government has not started the process to sell these mining areas, which some people say is because of political reasons.
The BJP leader said the state government is not helping with these projects because they can't make money from them.
The Trinamool Congress leaders did not comment on this.
GSI identified nine potential gold sites in West Bengal, primarily in the Purulia–Bankura belt.
The Rudra prospect in Purulia is the most promising site with approximately 650 kg of gold.
GSI's surveys also found 14-17 rare earth minerals in Purulia, with 0.67 million tonnes of reserves in the Kalapathar–Raghudih block.
The Centre launched 28 mineral exploration projects in West Bengal between 2019 and 2024.
The state government has not initiated the auction process for many of the identified mineral sites.
