Karnataka High Court Allows Probe Into Communal Shop Dispute

Karnataka High Court Allows Probe Into Communal Shop Dispute

A disagreement began at a photocopy shop after a child’s birth certificate was returned damaged.

A Muslim woman and her siblings argued with the Hindu shop owners.

The argument became a physical fight.

Police filed cases against both sides, including an attempt to murder case against the shop owners.

Right-wing groups then protested and called for the customers to be arrested.

The dispute was given a communal character, meaning it became connected to tensions between religious groups.

The prosecution told the court that the original dispute was not about religion.

The Karnataka High Court said the police should continue investigating both cases.

The court also temporarily protected one protest organiser from arrest.
