Chandigarh Stops Proposed iPhone Langar Over Stampede, Legal Concerns

A person planned to give away iPhones at a public gathering called an iPhone langar.

Chandigarh officials ordered police to stop the event.

They were worried that thousands of people might attend and that someone could get hurt in a stampede.

Police said the organizers had not requested permission.

They said holding the gathering could break restrictions under Section 163 of the BNSS.

A similar event was previously announced as a free petrol langar, according to the deputy commissioner.

Officials in Mohali said they had not received information about an authorized iPhone event there.

They warned that an event held without permission could lead to legal action.
