CCPD Fines Air India, Recommends Compensation for De-Boarded Wheelchair User

Falguni Maheshwari, who uses a wheelchair, was traveling on Air India.

She flew from Frankfurt to Delhi without medical problems.

Before her next flight to Bhuj, staff questioned whether she was fit to fly.

They asked for a medical certificate and removed her from the plane.

Her powered wheelchair was also returned damaged.

The aviation regulator said the airline should have arranged a medical examination and explained its decision in writing.

The disability commissioner fined Air India Rs 50,000 and recommended Rs 5 lakh for Maheshwari.

Air India must also investigate what happened and train its staff.
