Jharkhand High Court Orders Pollution Inspections in Ramgarh Industries

Jharkhand High Court Orders Pollution Inspections in Ramgarh Industries

The Jharkhand High Court heard complaints that industrial units in Ramgarh were polluting the air and water.

The complaints said smoke and dust were coming from factory chimneys.

They also alleged that the Damodar River and nearby water sources were being polluted.

The court ordered the pollution board to inspect the units twice every year.

At least one inspection must happen without warning.

If pollution-monitoring equipment shows excessive emissions for over 48 hours, the board must send a notice within seven days.

Officials must collect and test river-water samples within three months.

They must also check whether the factories’ environmental permissions are still valid.

The authorities must report their compliance to the court within four months.
