Workshop Highlights Marine Drug Discovery Potential
A big meeting happened at a place called NCAAH in CUSAT.
It was about how the ocean can help us find new medicines.
A smart person named William H Gerwick talked about how special things in the ocean, like tiny plants and animals, can make medicines that help people.
He said these medicines are very important and make a lot of money.
He also talked about how we need to protect the ocean so we can keep finding these helpful things.
Many important people from India and other countries were there to learn and talk about this.
International workshop on marine bio-discovery began at NCAAH, CUSAT.
Inaugurated by William H Gerwick of Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
Gerwick highlighted the potential of marine ecosystems for drug discovery.
Dolastatin 10, a marine-derived molecule, is used in FDA-approved anticancer drugs.
Workshop organized under the Ministry of Education’s SPARC programme.
