IIM Bangalore Asks Students to Build AI Chatbots for Midterms
IIM Bangalore gave students a different kind of midterm exam.
Instead of writing answers on paper, they built chatbots to answer 15 questions.
The students wrote instructions, called prompts, to guide their chatbots.
They also chose course materials for the chatbots to use.
Students could try different chatbots before choosing one to submit.
A teaching assistant, not just an AI system, checked the final answers.
Professor Subho Majumdar designed the exercise.
The institute said the activity helped students practise using generative AI and apply what they had learned.
IIM Bangalore replaced a traditional midterm test with a chatbot-building exercise in its Generative AI course.
The assessment was for second-year students in the Post Graduate Programme in Business Analytics.
Students created chatbots to answer 15 exam questions using prompts and course materials they selected.
Professor Subho Majumdar designed the exercise, and students could test multiple chatbots before submitting one.
A teaching assistant evaluated the final answers; the institute said the format aimed to make assessment practical and engaging.
