Bengal Minister Defends Local Food Traditions During Durga Puja

A discussion took place about what people in Bengal eat during religious festivals.

Baba Bageshwar was mentioned in the debate.

West Bengal minister Dilip Ghosh defended Bengal’s local customs.

He said religious traditions should be understood within their cultural setting.

Ghosh explained that some people offer animals to Goddess Kali and other deities.

He said meat can then be eaten as prasad, or food connected with worship.

He also mentioned that fish is offered to some deities.

His message was that Bengalis should be able to follow their own traditions.
