Abhishek Banerjee Aide Gets Eight-Day CID Custody in Land Case

Sumit Roy works as an aide to Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee.

Police arrested him in a case involving an alleged land scam in Jhargram.

The arrest came after the Supreme Court refused to give him anticipatory bail.

A court then allowed the Criminal Investigation Department, or CID, to keep him for eight days.

The CID said Roy was not cooperating with its investigation.

Roy’s lawyer did not ask for bail at the hearing.

The lawyer asked that Roy be allowed to use a device for sleeping because he has sleep apnoea.

Roy must appear in court again on September 19.
