Lok Sabha Passes Births and Deaths Amendment Bill Amid Protest

The Indian Parliament’s lower house, called the Lok Sabha, approved a new law that changes how births and deaths are recorded.

The law says that if someone waits more than two years to register a birth or death, they must get a special order from a judge.

The vote happened quickly, without a full debate, because some opposition members were upset about police actions against students who marched in Parliament.

The government’s minister said the opposition should join future debates instead of causing disruptions.

The bill is now waiting for the upper house, the Rajya Sabha, to approve it.
