Bhubaneswar Launches Heat & Cooling Action Plan to Combat Rising Temperatures
Imagine Bhubaneswar is getting hotter, and everyone wants air conditioning, which uses a lot of energy.
To fix this, the city created a plan called IHCAP.
This plan suggests planting more trees, fixing water areas, and making buildings use less energy.
The plan also aims to reduce the city's temperature and how much electricity is needed for cooling.
This plan shows how cities can handle rising temperatures and cut down on energy use, making the city more comfortable and eco-friendly for everyone.
Bhubaneswar launched the Integrated Heat and Cooling Action Plan (IHCAP) to combat rising heat.
The IHCAP was developed by iFOREST in collaboration with the Singapore-ETH Centre (SEC).
Between 2021 and 2023, air conditioner ownership rose by 73% annually.
Built-up areas increased by 23% between 2018 and 2024, while vegetation decreased.
The plan recommends urban greening, water body restoration, and energy-efficient buildings.
