Lebanese President Calls for Diplomacy with Israel Amid Border Tensions
Lebanon's President, Joseph Aoun, said that talking to enemies is better than fighting them.
He believes that wars only cause destruction, and eventually, countries have to talk to end them.
So, he thinks Lebanon should use diplomacy, which is talking, to solve problems with Israel.
He also asked Lebanese politicians to work together for the good of the whole country, instead of fighting amongst themselves.
This comes after some fighting between Lebanon and Israel on their border, even though there's a truce in place.
The President wants everyone to focus on talking to solve problems, not fighting.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun stated that Lebanon must negotiate with Israel, prioritizing diplomacy over war.
Aoun emphasized that negotiations are a tool used with enemies and are more effective than war, which only brings destruction.
He urged Lebanese politicians to prioritize national unity and interest above political, religious, or sectarian divisions.
The President's remarks follow a deadly Israeli raid in late October and come amidst a US- and French-brokered ceasefire since late November.
Despite the ceasefire, occasional Israeli strikes targeting alleged Hezbollah threats continue, which Lebanon and international organizations condemn as ceasefire violations.
