Telugu Desam Ticket Tussle Grows Ahead of Nellore Polls
The Nellore city elections are getting closer.
The Telugu Desam Party, or TD, is deciding who should receive election tickets.
About 20 local politicians who moved from the YSRC to the TD may want tickets.
Older TD workers are worried that these newcomers could receive preference.
The TD says it must consider the new members but also reward loyal workers.
The party also increased the number of city divisions from 54 to 72.
The YSRC has taken this change to court.
In the last election, the YSRC won every division, but the TD is now trying to improve its performance.
Around 20 YSRC corporators who joined the TD are expected to seek tickets for the Nellore Municipal Corporation elections.
Long-serving TD workers fear party leaders who stayed loyal during its years in opposition could be overlooked.
The TD increased NMC divisions from 54 to 72 through delimitation, a move the YSRC has challenged in court.
The YSRC won all 54 divisions in the previous NMC election, while the TD won none.
Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy, now with the TD, is working with minister P. Narayana on the party’s civic-election strategy.
