Gujarat Factory Act Amended, Permits Extended Shifts & Night Work
The Gujarat government has changed the factory work rules.
They now allow people to work up to 12 hours a day, as long as they agree, but the total work hours per week can't be more than 48.
Workers will get paid extra for overtime, and women can work at night in factories, but there are rules to keep them safe.
These changes are meant to help businesses and create more jobs.
Gujarat amended the Factories Act of 1948 via ordinance on July 1, 2025.
Maximum daily work hours increased to 12 (with consent), weekly hours capped at 48.
Overtime compensation includes double wages, and a quarterly limit raised to 125 hours.
Women can work night shifts (7 PM to 6 AM) with mandatory safety and security protocols.
The ordinance aims to stimulate economic activity, investment, and employment.
