Govt reviews report on urea unit costs
The government is looking at a report that suggests bringing back a fixed cost of ₹2,300 for every tonne of urea made by certain government-owned and cooperative factories.
This cost was supposed to start from April 2, 2014.
The Minister of Fertilisers, Anupriya Patel, told the Indian Parliament that the report is being checked.
The idea came from a committee that looks at government spending.
The fertiliser department asked for this cost to be looked at again.
The Centre is reviewing a report on reinstating a ₹2,300 per tonne fixed cost for urea units.
The report was submitted by the Chief Advisor (Cost) in the Ministry of Finance.
The proposal is for public sector undertakings (PSUs) and cooperative urea units.
The cost is proposed to have retrospective effect from April 2, 2014.
