U.S. Funds Proposed Gaza Force as Peace Plan Stalls

The United States wants to help create a security force for Gaza.

It has told Congress that it will provide more than $206 million for this effort.

The money would pay for vehicles, equipment, buildings and other operating costs.

The force would also help deliver aid and support rebuilding.

Some countries have offered troops, while Egypt and Jordan would train police.

However, the peace plan needed to create the force is stuck.

Israel says Hamas must be completely disarmed before Israeli forces withdraw.

Hamas says Israel must first stop attacks and meet its own commitments.
