Mizoram Overhauls Education System with Major Changes
The Mizoram government is making big changes to its education system.
Starting from 2027, schools will follow a January–December academic year instead of the current April–March cycle.
This change is because the new schedule fits better with Mizoram's weather and way of life.
Class 10 exams will still be in February–March.
The government will also stop making all schools use the same uniform and will no longer give ranks or divisions in exam results to reduce competition.
Schools will have a Hindi-speaking day once a month and a home language day once a week to promote different languages.
Additionally, all teachers will need to pass a special test called TET within two years.
Mizoram will revert to a January–December academic calendar from 2027–28 for primary and high school students.
Class 10 board exams will continue to be held in February–March.
The state will discontinue the common MBSE school uniform policy, allowing schools to choose their own uniforms.
MBSE will no longer award distinctions, divisions, or ranks in Class 10 and 12 results to reduce unhealthy competition.
All schools will observe a Hindi-speaking day once a month and a home language day once a week in English medium schools.
