Supreme Court: Toll Payers Have Right to Safe Roads
The Supreme Court said that if people pay to use roads (tolls), those roads have to be safe and easy to drive on.
They agreed with an earlier decision to stop collecting tolls when roads are bad.
The government agency in charge of highways, NHAI, has to make sure roads are in good shape, and if they're not, tolls can't be collected.
The court wants to ensure that if you pay a toll, the road should be good.
Supreme Court ruled users of national highways have right to safe roads.
The ruling came in response to an NHAI appeal regarding a Kerala High Court order.
The Kerala HC had suspended toll collection on NH544 due to poor road conditions.
The court stated that if tolls are paid, the public deserves unhindered and safe road access.
The Supreme Court asked the Kerala High Court to monitor the road conditions and involved contractors.
