Marcos Vows No One Spared in Infrastructure Corruption Probe
The Philippine president, Ferdinand Marcos Jr., said he's starting a big investigation to look into possible corruption in infrastructure projects.
This includes money spent on flood control that might not have been used properly.
He promised no one will be exempt from the probe and is hoping to gain the public's trust.
A lot of money, around $9.52 billion, has been spent since 2022, with some projects never even being built.
There are protests planned because people are worried about corruption, but the president is asking everyone to be peaceful.
The president has also decided to use the money saved from flood control projects for education, healthcare and agriculture instead.
He wants the investigation to be focused and not political.
President Marcos Jr. announced an independent probe into alleged corruption in infrastructure.
The probe will investigate anomalies in projects, especially flood control.
He appointed a former Supreme Court justice to lead the investigation.
The president stated that 545 billion pesos ($9.52 billion) in flood control spending since 2022 is under scrutiny.
The president has redirected savings from cancelled flood control projects to other sectors.
