ITR-U: Updated Tax Return Filing Rules and Penalties
ITR-U is a special form to fix tax returns.
It's like a do-over for your taxes.
If you missed the first deadline, made a mistake, or forgot to report income, you can use ITR-U to fix it.
The government has given more time to file the updated return.
You'll have up to 4 years to file.
But, you can't use ITR-U to get a refund or pay less tax.
Also, if you file late, there's a penalty based on how late you are.
ITR-U is for correcting or filing returns after the initial deadline.
The deadline to file ITR-U is extended to 48 months.
Taxpayers can use ITR-U to report additional income or correct mistakes.
ITR-U can be filed after the assessment year ends.
Penalties apply based on how late the updated return is filed.
