Delhi Plans Survey to Frame Water Policy
The Delhi government is planning to do a big survey of borewells to understand how much groundwater is being used.
This is because the city's population is growing, and they need to make sure there's enough drinking water for everyone in the future.
Right now, they have 10 water treatment plants and some tubewells that provide water.
But with more people coming to Delhi, they think they might need to use more groundwater.
The survey will help them make rules about how to use water wisely.
Delhi government plans to conduct a survey of borewells to frame a water usage policy.
Current water production is 990-1,000 MGD, with 135 MGD from tubewells.
Population projected to increase to 29 million by 2041 and 32.1 million by 2051.
Water demand expected to rise to 1,418 MGD by 2041 and 1,566 MGD by 2051.
Survey to be conducted by WAPCOS, a Centre’s PSU, to determine groundwater extraction.
