Supreme Court Allows CBI Probe in ₹1,500-crore Mining Scam
The Supreme Court of India has allowed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate a big illegal stone-mining scam in Jharkhand's Sahibganj district.
The scam is worth ₹1,500 crore, which means a lot of money was lost.
The Jharkhand government tried to stop the CBI from investigating, but the Supreme Court said no.
The court even asked why the government was trying to protect someone close to the Chief Minister.
A man named Pankaj Mishra, who is close to the Chief Minister, was already arrested by another agency for money laundering.
The opposition party, BJP, is happy with the court's decision and says it shows that no one is above the law.
The Jharkhand government says it can investigate itself, but the Supreme Court did not agree.
Supreme Court allows CBI to probe ₹1,500-crore illegal stone-mining scam in Jharkhand's Sahibganj district.
Jharkhand government's plea to stop the CBI probe was rejected by the Supreme Court.
Court questioned the state's opposition to the probe, noting involvement of Chief Minister's aide Pankaj Mishra.
Enforcement Directorate had already arrested Pankaj Mishra in 2022 for money laundering related to the scam.
BJP welcomed the verdict, accusing the government of trying to shield those involved in the scam.
