Tamil Nadu Government to Appeal Madras HC VC Appointment Stay
The Tamil Nadu government is not happy with the Madras High Court's decision to halt its new law on choosing university leaders (Vice-Chancellors).
They're taking the issue to the highest court, the Supreme Court, to try to overturn the High Court's ruling.
The state government believes it has the right to appoint VCs.
They are disputing the High Court's decision to stay the law, which took effect after the Supreme Court validated the laws.
A lawyer representing the state argues that the High Court shouldn't have acted so quickly.
They hope the Supreme Court will rule in their favor, allowing the government to appoint the VCs.
Tamil Nadu government plans to appeal to the Supreme Court.
This follows the Madras High Court's stay on VC appointment laws.
The amendments gave the state government the power to appoint VCs.
The state government notified the Amendment Acts as Laws on April 11.
DMK MP P Wilson cited the Supreme Court had already rejected argument that the amendments contravened UGC regulations.
