Bangladesh in Turmoil After Student Leader's Death
Sharif Osman Hadi was a leader in the 2024 uprising in Bangladesh.
He was part of a student protest group called Inqilab Mancha.
Someone tried to kill him by shooting him in the ear as he left a mosque in Dhaka.
His friends took him to Singapore for doctors to help him, but he didn't get better and died.
This happened on a Friday in December 2025.
People are sad because he was an important leader in the protests.
The government said they would help bring his body back to Bangladesh and announced a half-day of mourning.
Protesters are angry and have taken to the streets, attacking political offices and calling for the arrest of the attackers.
They also set fire to newspaper offices, like Prothom Alo and Daily Star, because they were upset with the media.
The government is trying to keep things calm and find out who did this.
Some protesters are also angry at India and have protested outside Indian diplomatic missions.
Additionally, a Hindu man was lynched in Mymensingh, which the government strongly condemned.
The government is urging people to stay calm and let the police handle the situation.
Sharif Osman Hadi, a senior leader of the student protest group Inqilab Mancha, died in Singapore from injuries sustained in an assassination attempt in Dhaka on December 12, 2025.
Hadi was shot in the head by masked gunmen as he initiated his election campaign in central Dhaka's Bijoynagar area.
Protests erupted in Dhaka and other cities, with mobs vandalizing and setting fire to the offices of major newspapers like Prothom Alo and The Daily Star.
Bangladesh's interim Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus declared a national day of mourning and vowed to bring the killers to justice.
Protesters targeted Indian diplomatic missions, raising anti-India slogans and demanding the closure of the Indian High Commission until Hadi's assailants are returned.
