EPF Wage Ceiling Hike May Not Raise EDLI Life Cover

EPF Wage Ceiling Hike May Not Raise EDLI Life Cover

The government has increased the salary limit used for EPF calculations from Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000 a month.

This could make the calculation for EDLI life insurance reach Rs 10.50 lakh.

However, the EDLI rules still say that families can receive no more than Rs 7 lakh.

So the higher amount cannot be paid unless the government changes that separate limit.

EDLI benefits are based partly on salary and partly on the employee’s PF balance.

Employees with smaller PF balances may receive more than before, but only up to the existing Rs 7 lakh cap.

Employees whose benefit was already capped at Rs 7 lakh may not gain anything immediately.

Employers will pay more into the scheme while the payout limit remains unchanged.
