Odisha to Plant Casuarinas for Temple, Cyclone Protection
The Odisha government is planting 150,000 casuarina trees near Chilika Lake.
These trees will provide firewood for the Jagannath temple kitchen, which feeds many people daily, and for cremations at Swarga Dwara.
The trees also act as a barrier against cyclones, helping to protect the area.
This is part of a larger effort to plant many trees across the state, taking place on Prime Minister Modi's birthday.
Chilika wildlife division is leading the casuarina plantation drive.
The drive aims to supply firewood for the Jagannath temple kitchen and Swarga Dwara.
1.5 lakh casuarina seedlings will be planted along Chilika Lake.
The plantation also serves as a natural shield against cyclones.
The drive is scheduled for September 17, under the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam plan.
